The department Equipment for Additive Manufacturing (EfAM) develops cutting-edge technology and high-precision machine concepts for 3D printing and layer-wise material deposition. These technologies are seen as a holy grail for many applications, like large-area and printed electronics, integrated products, mechatronics, pharmaceutics, personalized and high-nutrition food.
EfAM has more than 10 year experience with developing additive manufacturing technologies, like jetting and printing of high-viscous materials, patterning of photo-sensitive materials, stereo lithography technology, 3D printing, printing of metal structures, laser printing and structuring, thin film deposition and patterning, food printing and encapsulation printing. We have a track record of successful technology transfers to our business partners. Based on a broad technology basis, we define the functional and customer requirement specifications, translate these into innovative concepts, develop together with academic and industrial partners machine prototypes and transfer the developed technologies to our industrial partners. The core disciplines of the EfAM research group comprises control engineering, mechanical engineering, system engineering, mechatronics, print engineering, thermo-fluid engineering, process development, and project management.
