Organs-on-a-chip can be used to improve and accelerate the development of new products.
On an organ-on-a-chip human cells (or stem cells) are cultured. In this way, the tissue properties and functions of various organs can be simulated. TNO focuses, in particular, on the organ functions of the liver, gut and lungs. These organs-on-a-chip will improve our ability to predict which drugs will work in whom. They will also improve our understanding of the variation between individuals, and show whether new products are safe. In addition, this technology will enable us to make a significant contribution to animal-free innovations.
